Kagatsu Village Map Guide

Kagatsu is small enough to learn and strange enough to misread. Village in the Shade does not market itself as an open-world checklist game; it markets a secluded mountain community with a farm on the edge of tradition. This map overview stays honest about pre-launch limits: we outline landmark categories shown in trailers and previews, not a spoiler atlas of every hidden cellar.

Use it beside Getting Started and village rules so geography never accidentally becomes rule-breaking.

Homestead and garden

Your house and overgrown garden form the tutorial compass. Previews show a workable plot beside the home that must be cleared of weeds and debris. Treat the homestead as the center of your day graph: every fishing trip or town errand should budget the walk back. Decorating rooms and fencing edges changes how the center feels, but not its strategic role. Details live in farming and homestead.

Brook and nature routes

Watering cans that refill at the river create a repeated path between fields and the brook. Trailers linger on riverside calm for good reason — it is both choreography and mood. Fishing fits the same corridor. In standard play, know how long the loop takes before dusk. In Peaceful Life Mode, the loop is pure efficiency.

Town streets and notice boards

The village proper holds shops, neighbors, and boards that spell out customs. Boards are part of the map’s readability: they tell you what not to do while pointing you toward community spaces. When a street feels too quiet even at noon, note it; the same lane may feel hostile after dark.

Festival grounds

Hanami spots and summer festival spaces appear in marketing as social anchors. They are seasonal rooms inside the same village shell. Learn daytime approaches early so festival nights (calendar events, not necessarily horror nights) feel navigable. See festivals and seasons.

Borders and “do not leave”

One published rule forbids leaving the village. Practically, that means you should recognize edge transitions. Until post-launch maps are verified, assume any path that suddenly feels like wilderness is a conscious story choice, not a shortcut to a vendor. Mark mental fences the same way you craft wooden ones.

Day map versus night map

Day: neighbors, errands, animals, visible helpers. Night: emptied streets, audio tells, possible pursuits, optional clues. The geometry may be identical while the encounter table changes. Night exploration covers behavior; this page covers why memorizing daytime corners matters when lamps are gone.

Suggested first-week circuit

  1. House → garden clear → brook refill.
  2. Garden → town board → one villager chat.
  3. Town → festival landmark spotting without lingering after dusk.
  4. Home → sleep with stamina to spare.

Repeat until the circuit is muscle memory. Then expand.

Characters as landmarks

Some villagers function like moving signposts — the chief for rules, shopkeepers for tools, neighbors for rumors. Profile them in the villagers guide and the Characters hub.

Platforms and performance

Hand-painted vistas should remain readable on Switch, Switch 2, PS5, and PC. If frame pacing or load pops hurt navigation, check system requirements on PC and close background apps. Launch timing sits on release platforms.

What we will add after launch

Labeled screenshots, safe bench spots, and verified border warnings will land here once Japan/Asia late-July 2026 and Western Fall 2026 players can confirm them. Until then, avoid fan-wiki fiction about unpublished dungeons.

  • Face the house before you wander so you can reverse course.
  • Count tool swings between garden and river to estimate time.
  • Use festival decorations as daytime breadcrumbs.
  • Do not chase lost-item rumors into fog on hour one.

Return to the Guides hub for systems pages, and keep the day-one checklist nearby while the village is still new.
